Spotting a Slab Leak

It is impossiblplumbing-blueprints-and-componentse for most of us even to imagine life without the benefit of our modern plumbing systems. We rely on our plumbing each and every day, and for a multitude of different reasons. This reliance is precisely why any problems with our plumbing systems are so worrisome. When something goes wrong with your plumbing in Tampa, FL, it can lead to instant disruption to your daily routine.

As much trouble as a leaking faucet or backed up toilet may create, there are other problems with your plumbing system that may not be quite as obvious, but which are far more serious. We’re thinking specifically of a slab leak. Slab leaks are, by definition, quite difficult to recognize, locate, and access for repairs. If you have any reason at all to suspect that there is a slab leak on your property, do not hesitate to call us and schedule service.

First Things First: What Is a Slab Leak?

There are a lot of points at which your plumbing system may develop a fairly obvious leak. A slab leak is not one of them. This type of leak develops beneath the concrete slab upon which a home is constructed. With that location in mind, it should be pretty obvious as to why it can be tricky to notice.

There Are Signs to Look Out For

Just because a slab leak is hidden from view does not mean that there is no way in which to recognize that one has developed on your property. You just have to know what it is that you are looking for. Familiarizing yourself with these warning signs can help you to prevent potentially serious damage to your property.

  • Hot spots on the floor. It is possible for a hot water slab leak to develop. If this happens, you may actually be able to feel warm spots on the floor as you walk across it. If it feels like you’ve got in-floor heating in random spots, you should give us a call to have the situation evaluated.
  • Wet spots on the carpet. If you ever walk across a carpeted area and feel a squishy wet spot, do not ignore the problem. This could be the result of water from a slab leak being soaked up the flooring and carpeting. The same applies to warped floorboards, or even wet spots at the base of your walls.
  • The sound of running water. Are you certain that there is no water being used in your home? Yet you still hear what sounds like running water faintly in your house? Then you may be hearing audible proof that there is a leak beneath the slab on your property.

You Need Professional Detection and Repairs

The last thing that you want—other than a slab leak to begin with!—is for a plumber to go into a slab leak repair job blindly. Fortunately for you, our team would never dream of doing that. We have the tools and technology necessary to pinpoint the location of your slab leak before we excavate the pipe. That way, we can repair the pipe and circumvent further trouble without unnecessary disruption to your property.
