Do You Have a Sump Pump Installed in Your Home?

Living in Florida means dealing with some pretty heavy rainfall from time to time. Rainfall is one thing, but flooding is another situation entirely. If your home takes on water when it rains heavily, then you really need to have a sump pump installed at the lowest point in your residence.

In order for your sump pump to function effectively and reliably, it must be properly sized, professionally installed, and routinely serviced. Schedule your sump pump services in Carrollwood, FL with our plumbers. We’ll make sure that your home is protected from flood waters.

How Does a Sump Pump Work?

A sump pump is a simple device, but it is one that can save you huge amounts of money in property damage should your home flood. Basically, a sump pump is just a pump that is installed in a sump pit. This pit is excavated at the lowest level of the property, and the pump is installed within it.

There are a couple of different options when it comes to choosing a sump pump. A submersible pump is generally preferred. This type of pump actually submerges in the water in the sump pit. It is quiet as a result, and they are very effective. If you have a narrow sump pit, though, you may need to use a pedestal sump pump. These pumps sit on a pedestal in the pit, with the motor exposed. This makes it easy to access for service, but these pumps are also louder in operation.

When the water level in the sump pit hits a certain point, a float switch will trigger the pump to start up. Once it does, it simply begins pumping water out of the pit and out of your home. This reduces the risk of water damage, as well as the growth of biological pollutants that thrive in humid conditions.
